COURSES
We facilitate various FOOD AND FAITH courses for
theology students and church groups.
Courses for Theology Students
Over the past decade, we’ve been teaching students at Trinity College Bristol and Mullers School of Practical Theology, hosting groups in both urban settings and farming contexts.
-
We offer this teaching for over one or two days. Either:
Teaching students in situ at college or
Hosting students on a farm in Devon.
In the latter cases we can arrange accommodation locally.
-
In this time we will:
Look at the character of our contemporary food system and highlight key areas of injustice in the light of our biblical narrative, particularly through the lens of Sabbath and Jubilee.
Reflect theologically on what a godly food system might look like and spend time reimagining just food economies through a Christological lens.
Discuss various food and farming scenarios we may be confronted with in the church and reflect on these from a biblical perspective.
Explore practical, everyday steps we can take to care for creation better through the way we grow, source and share food
-
“The combination of the in-depth courses, the practical outworking of the teaching, the integration of theology, worship and discipleship, and the inspirational farm visits, have made this an essential and hugely appreciated course for our students”
- Phil Thomas, Müllers Scripture, Theology and Culture course, Bristol
“Pip and Will have been teaching our students about a Christ-centred approach to farming and eating for the past 8 years. The students love this course and it is invariably one of those that impacts them most in the academic year!”
- John Bimson, Trinity College, Bristol
-
These courses can be quite flexible to meet the needs of the group, but here some options:
A one-off two-hour teaching session (ideally in person, but this could also be done online)
Three consecutive two-hour teaching sessions (in person or online)
A one day Food and Faith course on a farm in Devon, just west of Exeter
-
In this time we will:
Look at the key ecological and social issues within our current food system.
Explore what a godly food system would look like and reimagine how we might participate in growing a just food system.
Discuss small and large steps we can take to eat and farm in ways that glorify God more fully
-
“Will and Pip are important voices at this time. They articulate a Biblically-grounded vision for creation care which is both thoughtful and practical. They led a small group discussion at our home group which led to fruitful discussions and inspiration for action. Their small group resources are very timely for the church and we would highly recommend them.”
- Small group leaders at Cambridge Vineyard church
Courses for Church Groups
We’ve helped many church groups to reflect on these issues and would love to help your group to engage in this area.
Online Food and Faith Courses
As of Spring 2024, we are hoping to be able to offer a 3-part online Food and Faith course for you to do with your church small group.
We have also produced a 12-part online course, ‘Creation, Agriculture and Technology’ for theology students. If you are interested in accessing this, please get in touch via the Contact Page
